Motorcycle Open Barrel Crimp Tools, Wire Stripers, and Extraction Removal Tool for
Molex, Amp,Yazaki, Sumitomo, Amphenol -
Open Barrel Terminal Crimps are a very effective means to secure the wire to the terminal, usually outlasting everything else on the Motorcycle, A wire crimp is just fine by itself, but in some cases you may want to add a spot of solder to the conductor crimp. Or if you are pinching the terminal with a pair of pliers or needle nose, you will definitely want to solder. Take a look at the bottom of the page. These are both nice Quality crimp tools for the budget minded, or novice. Personally I have about six different crimp tools that I use, and a couple of them cost well over $300.00 for the tool Frame, The dies are an additional cost.
Practice will help you become proficient with any new crimp tool, and it will be necessary for a good crimp.

So pick up extra terminals to practice with, Or use poor crimps that you have replaced. Like I did here.
I solder most of my lighting, battery cable, and high current relay and ground connections.
I use a 60 watt soldering iron, (60 -
Keep the heat where you want the solder to run at the terminal end of the wire, you don't want the solder to wick up the wire under the insulation!!
Just need a tiny bit of solder, don't want blobs of it all over the terminal or wire. (like the picture on the bottom left)
The 3 Terminals on the right are perfect, 60/40 rosin core solder. I personally use .8 mm, and 1 mm solder.

Current flow for wire length and thickness quick reference chart .
Strand count plays a roll in this as well which is not taken into consideration on this Chart.
The higher the strand count the More current the wire can pass.
As you can see 16 AWG is more than enough for most wiring needs, it is used on Headlight circuits for most Japanese bikes from the factory, with little or no problems.
